Introduction:
Specific Learning disability means a condition where one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding or in using language, spoken or written, that may manifest itself in the imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell or to do mathematical calculations. Children with Specific Learning Disabilities not only face academic difficulties but also suffer from emotional and psychological distress. Providing counselling to these children and their parents will help these children to manage their difficulties and cope with academic demands.
Students opting Diploma in counselling and SLD learn to identify and analyse different types of Learning disabilities and get training to use techniques of interventions. They are basically trained in dealing psychological issues of these children, their teachers and parents. Qualified counsellors work at educational institutions, special schools, residential schools, centres of teachers training, tutorials, remedial teaching centres, NGOs working for child welfare and so on…,
Note- This course is more useful for teachers or any one working at educational institutions, Institutions for Children, Institutions for Children with special needs, Child psychologists etc. However, those who complete this diploma are not authorised to certify any child for LD.
