It is a professional service intended to help people resolve their psycho social problems and to strengthen their capacities to deal their future more effectively. The profession renders service at individual, group, family and community level. The profession is based upon scientific knowledge, techniques and skills in human relations, assisting individuals and mobilizing resources. In simple terms it is helping people to help themselves. It has systematized body of knowledge based upon Psychology and different social sciences.
It has its own methods like Case work, Group work, Community Organization, Social Welfare Administration, Social Action and Social work Research. The education in social work includes both class room teaching and field work practicum. Thus the curriculum enables the student to develop complete professionalism during the course of study.
